Winter Vaping Tips

Living in a country where the temperature can drop significantly in the winter months means that you may run into some problems when trying to keep vaping. This sharp decline in temperature can have an adverse effect on your vaporizer and equipment.

While there are butane and flame powered vaporizers currently on the market which are purposely designed for cold conditions, the battery powered portable vaporizers are the much more popular choice. With this in mind, we are now going to look at a few tips to keep in mind when using your battery powered vape in those cold winter months.

How does cold weather effect Vaporizer batteries?

When winter arrives, your energy bills go up. This has always been the way, whether its from using central heating more, switching lights on earlier in the day due to less sunlight or the increase time spent using electronic devices. Similarly, your vaporizer will have a reaction to the cold weather.

Simply put, cold weather and batteries do not get along with each other. So much so, that when temperatures drop to a certain point (approx -20•C) most batteries completely stop working. Batteries energy levels tend to decrease in colder environments due to the chemical process slowing down significantly in cold weather.

This usually leads to a combination of decreased battery life and a slow down of performance. Little tips to help you avoid this happening are to keep your vape relatively warm, inside your inner pockets for example. Also, in regions where temperatures can drop well below freezing, try not to leave your vape in your car overnight to avoid the thawing out process.

Keep Your Vaporizer safe and warm

Look, we know how hard it is to even contemplate staying dry on a typical winters day. Next to near impossible. However, this probably doesn't need to be overstated however we would advise that you keep your device dry at all times. Well at least attempt to. Look, we all love snow, I mean its great and people love it however, sometimes people can assume that snow isn't that big of a problem, especially when it comes to electronic devices. Snow may seem quite harmless, however it does melt quickly (especially if it lands on a warm vape!) and could land a fatal blow to your vaporizer.

Metal tips = frozen lips

Standard vaporizers and mods can hold quite a high amount of heat and this is necessary in order to get the best from your device. The vaporizer will take a considerable amount of time to fall to the temperature of it's surroundings, especially if it is especially cold. However this can cause quit the problem if your vaporizer comes equipped with a drip tip. The drip tip, usually made from steel, is used as a mouthpiece on a lot of mods and vapes.

This can catch a lot of people off guard, as the vape may feel nice and warm when in your hand, and then when the drip tip makes contact with your mouth, you might be in for a surprise! This can be a problem for vapers in colder parts of the world. The fact of the matter is, skin tends to stick to metal once it is below freezing point.

An unfortunate fact that we just have to deal with as coming into contact with frozen metal is a first class ticket to Frostbite City. When we consider that the skin on your lips is especially sensitive and is vulnerable to this, this can lead to a very painful experience. We would recommend for those cold harsh Winter months, switching to a non-metallic drip tip, ideally plastic, ceramic or wood!
